A great example of this is attacking A-Main on Ascent. Of course, they can jump-peek or bait your shot, but being ready at head level will yield the best results when swinging or peeking at an angle. This gives you an immediate advantage, because having your crosshair prepared already prevents you from needing to flick and adjust to where the enemy’s head will be. Understanding where head level is is crucial in hitting headshots because it allows you to pre-fire and be ready to swing common angles more efficiently. When peeking and holding angles, crosshair placement is essential in hitting headshots and getting picks for your team. However, as you get used to strafing, tapping, and bursting instead of crouch spraying, you will notice that you will hit significantly more headshots. This may take a few games to get used to, as you will die in the fights that you usually would have crouched in, and it takes time to be mindful of tap firing and bursting when you are used to spraying. Unbinding crouch and then hopping into a deathmatch can help you train your brain to acknowledge that the key no longer does anything, forcing you to do something other than spray in fights. So, what can be done to fix this? The easiest way to address this issue is to unbind your crouch key so that nothing happens when your reflex to crouch in a fight is triggered. The vast majority of the time, these habits are going to do more harm to you than your opponents. Now these things have their place in-game, like trying to wall-bang someone with a spray or hold a cheeky one-off angle one round. When you crouch, you become immobile, allowing any good player to pick you off easily and give their team a man advantage, and when you spray, you rely on RNG to win your fights. While it is true that crouching makes your spray more accurate, getting in the habit of spraying, in general, will do more harm than good in the long run. Starting things off, nipping this bad habit in the bud will help with the rest of the tips on this list.

To be a good spiker, the player must have good timing, jumping power, and overall athleticism. These are just some of the most popular spiking techniques, however, there are more than the ones listed above. This type of spike is often used when the opposing team's blockers are positioned close to the net and the attacker has limited options. Tool spike: A tool spike is an attack that intentionally hits off the opposing team's blockers, deflecting the ball out of bounds. This type of spike is difficult to block, but also difficult to land as it is treading near the out-of-bounds line. Line spike: A line spike is an attack that goes straight down the line ahead of the hitter, either on the left or right side of the court. This type of spike is often used to avoid the opposing team's blockers and to target an open area of the court. Spiking is a combination of jumping with powerful arm swings in order to smash the ball onto the opponent’s side of the court.Īs you get more advanced in volleyball, there many different types of spikes you can do:Ĭross-court spike: A cross-court spike is an attack that goes diagonally across the court, from one corner to the opposite corner. There are a variety of different ways to attack a ball, but the most common and consistently effective way to do so is by spiking. Attacking: Attacking, also known as hitting, is the final step in the pass-set-spike sequence and is used to score points. This needs to be coordinated with the hitters, but when done right, it can be a devastating weapon that’s difficult to react to.Ĥ. When playing in a competitive setting where setters are more experienced and comfortable with their hitters, setters can change the tempo of the attack by doing a quicker set. Setters want to create a high and accurate ball trajectory toward their hitter that’s easy and comfortable to hit. When they are about to set, it’s important to follow through with the motion with their entire body by extending their knees and straightening their arms. Their hands should be above their heads with their fingers relaxed but steady, with their knees and elbows slightly bent. To set, the player should use their fingertips and create a triangle with their thumb and fingers. Setters must also have good spatial awareness to know where their teammates are, as well as where the opponent’s defenses are the weakest. The setter must have good hand-eye coordination and the ability to make quick decisions to determine who to pass to. This is normally done by the team’s setter and is the second step in the pass-set-spike sequence. Setting: Setting or overhead passing is the most important step in an offensive play as it determines which player gets to spike or attack. This is the first step in the basic pass-set-spike sequence that makes up the foundation of volleyball offense and is arguably the most important skill to have in volleyball.ģ. Ideally, the ball should be passed high toward your setter so that they can facilitate offensive plays for your team. To pass effectively, the player should get in position, keep their arms straight and feet parallel, extend their knees forward, and make contact with the ball using their forearms. The goal of passing is to keep the ball in play and set up an offensive play. Passing: Also known as the bump, is used to receive the ball from the opposing team's serve or hit. No matter which type of serve you decide to do, the key to a good serve is accuracy and consistency, which requires practice to master.Ģ. Some more advanced serves include the floater and the topspin. There are different types of serves, such as the underhand serve, the overhand serve, and the jump serve. A skilled serve toward the setter or a weak passer can disrupt the opposing team and make them panic, giving your team more opportunities to score. It is a skill that every player must master as it’s the first move that can give your team momentum and shut down your opponent’s momentum.Īlthough serves are a great way to score points, serves can also be used to break up the opposing team’s formation, creating opportunities to score in the future. Serving: The serve is the first contact in a volleyball game, and it's an important opportunity to gain an advantage over the opposing team. Those actions are serving, passing, setting, spiking, blocking, and digging.ġ. Although it can seem complicated with all the different movements that each player is doing, volleyball can be broken down into 6 fundamental actions that are constantly repeated throughout the match. Volleyball is an action-packed sport that rewards strategy, athleticism, and teamwork, as each player must constantly anticipate their opponent’s next move and be ready to react in an instant. Setting this to 400 results in a PWM frequency on the Arduino Mega pin of 16Mhz / 400 = 47304Hz, or possibly half that! The duty cycle is then changed by setting OCR4A or B to some value between 0 and 400įurther reading of the datasheet will explain all the registers, but hopefully this will point you in the right direction The actual frequency of the PWM is a function of these settings and the final entry, the input capture register. We have selected no prescaling, which corresponds to the native 16Mhz frequency of the Arduino clock. The CS bits relate to the clock selection, see table 17-6 in the datasheet. We have set it to mode 14, which is fast PWM with ICRn used as the maximum for the counter. The 4 statements relating to the WGM bits control the mode of operation of the PWM. Usually by specifying the chip select pin in the device constructor. Libraries will have the facility to change the chip select so that you can have multiple devices on the SPI bus. Please note that the control registers 4, sections A & B will effect the PWM on all the OCR4n pins, see table above. The default SPI chip select pin on the Mega is 53, but any pin can be used as a chip select. Please see section 17.9 in the datasheet. These control the type, range and frequency of the PWM generated by the Arduino. We need to look at the timer counter control registers. This is extremely annoying as it produces a nasty noise when operating DC or stepper motors by PWM. One of the most annoying aspects of the native arduino PWM commands is that the PWM frequency is set to a value which is audible. How to change the frequency and range of the Arduino PWM? Now we can change the duty cycle using just the register Using the register is slightly faster.įirst we set the pin to output and use the analogWrite command to initialise the PWM Very simply we can use the register to set the duty cycle instead of the analogWrite command. Plenty of weights, some letterforms even look better than DIN’s (why does DIN have a curved “l”, for instance?). The more versatile Barlow at Google Fonts is closest Google Font to DIN, and perhaps the all-around best free alternative. Gidole is a nice DIN-like open source font, but having only a single weight (and no italics) renders it somewhat impractical. Hopefully the type designer will flesh this one out a bit. Just as very small children do not understand lightning and where it comes from, so parents soften this truth to them, so Dickinson seeks to soften the ‘lightning’ power of truth. As Vendler puts it, ‘some truths must be told allegorically.’īut Dickinson’s motive for ‘slanting’ the truth is different from Jesus’: she doesn’t want to hide the truth from those who do not want to see it, but instead she wishes to make the truth more palatable to those who run the risk of being ‘blinded’ by it, as by the sun’s glare.Īs the famous line from the 1992 film A Few Good Men has it, ‘You can’t handle the truth!’ There are times in all of our lives when we would rather bury our heads in the sand and run away from harsh reality making reality a little less harsh is the sermon Dickinson appears to be preaching here. The moral ‘truth’ is thus communicated not through a direct message but via an oblique form, a story that represents something else. Dickinson doesn’t mention the sun in this poem, but this may be what she is hinting at in the final two lines of the poem.īut for Helen Vendler, in her brilliant book of close readings, Dickinson, telling the truth aslant or ‘slant’ involves indirection rather than misdirection: Vendler connects Dickinson’s poem with Jesus’ use of the parable to put across his moral teachings. (Compare, in this connection, a much earlier poem, by the Elizabethan poet Sir Philip Sidney: Sidney also ends each of his lines with an i sound.)Īnd the words ‘dazzle’ and ‘blind’ in that second stanza call to mind the idea of staring directly at the sun. Indeed, the repeated open ‘i’ sounds in the words Dickinson chooses to end her lines – ‘lies’, ‘Delight’, ‘surprise’, ‘kind’, ‘blind’ – call to mind the eyes and the importance of the visual, of seeing the truth. These monitors range from simple mileage calculators to high-tech algorithms that account for ambient temperature, highway/city driving and other factors. Some cars come with an oil life monitor, which can help remind you when your car is due for an oil change. If the oil is below the recommended level, add some oil.Put the stick back into its slot and pull it out again.Pull out the dipstick and wipe it off with a rag.Park on a level surface and wait until the engine has cooled down a bit (so you don’t burn yourself). Most cars have a dipstick in the engine that allows you to check oil levels and how clean it is. Check your manual to see when the manufacturer of your vehicle recommends the oil be changed. Most car manufacturers actually recommend changing your oil between 6,000 and 10,000 miles. With the introduction of synthetic oil and technological improvements, that number has increased to 3,000 miles or every six months.īut believe it or not, the old wisdom may be just that - old. In the old days, it was recommended that you have your oil changed every 2,000 miles. If your vehicle’s oil gets low or too dirty, it won’t perform properly, and that’s bad news for the vehicle’s engine components. It’s a bit cliche, but think of oil as your vehicle’s blood - though in this case the “blood” serves as a lubricant, ensuring that engine parts don’t overheat due to excess friction. Two more great resources are the car repair estimator from Consumer Reports and the Mechanics Files at .įor something seemingly so insignificant, neglecting to monitor your vehicle’s oil can have devastating effects. To find a mechanic shop you can trust, consider asking around on local social media sites like NextDoor, checking with friends and family, or reading reviews on Yelp and Angie’s List. While in the back of your mind you may have cautionary tales of unscrupulous auto garages recommending every repair and replacement under the sun, most mechanics are honest. It’s up to you to decide whether that expertise is necessary when it comes to routine maintenance, just about any auto repair shop will be sufficient. The benefit of taking your vehicle to the dealer is that they have experience working specifically with its make. If your car is under warranty, using an independent shop won’t affect its coverage. Generally, an independent mechanic will charge less than a dealer. If you’re dealing with scheduled maintenance, you’ll have to decide whether to take your car to a dealer or an independent mechanic. Scheduled Check Ups are an Important Part of Care and MaintenanceĮven if you’re the most passionately-DIY car owner, you should regularly bring your car in for a check-up by trained professionals. But, at the end of the day, staying on top of regular care significantly reduces the likelihood of needing to pay thousands of dollars - or worse, being stranded on the side of the road. Sometimes major repairs for your transmission, engine or electrical system are inevitable, no matter how diligent you are with daily maintenance. Unfortunately, when it comes to this maintenance, it’s best to leave it to the pros. Vehicle technology has come a long way over the last few decades, making it more difficult to complete oil changes and other traditionally routine DIY tasks from home. Many of these tasks can be completed with minimal tools and expertise. The good news is that quite a bit of regular maintenance and care doesn’t require a degree from Universal Technical Institute. Incrementally reduce it by a tiny amount until it stops overcorrecting. While not ideal, it is better to have the wheel not center completely than overcorrecting (centering strength too low rather than too high). Getting it perfect will take a bit of trial and error. Just saw your edit, definately looks like centering strength is too high. I didn't do much tweaking with my wheel, it felt pretty good once I got the FFB directions figured out. I also clamp my wheel to my desk, I have FFB set lower than I'd like so I dont knock anything over. I dont think I changed my setting, it feels low by default on mine and I'm okay where it's at. It's a balancing act that takes some time to tune, too low and the wheel wont center, too high and it will overcorrect. You may also need to adjust the centering strength, if it's too high the wheel can overshoot center and have to recorrect back. I have a small dead zone set for my Xbone controller, just enough to avoid joystick drift/bias, but none for my wheel. It might be bouncing on the dead zone when it tries to find center because what it sees as the center is too large. Any inputs that occur within the dead zone are ignored, even a very small value can feel very wrong with a wheel. You said you changed the dead zone earlier, did you change it back to zero? Dead zone will make what the game sees as the wheel center point larger. I also almost exclusively do hot laps and time trials, so I dont ever really let the wheel center itself. Not that I've noticed, but it's been a while since I've used it. The Logi wheels should have 900° rotation, make sure the in-game setting matches this. Beam is the only game I've had to do this in.Įdit- also make sure the game is set to the same degree of rotation as the wheel. I had to re-do this setup each time I downloaded new drivers/software updates for the wheel, so make sure that stuff is all up to date first. That setting is in the same/a similar place. I also had to invert my pedal axis as well, by default they were reading 100% when they weren't pressed at all. Check this and see if it fixes the problem. There is a tick box somewhere to invert the FFB direction. In your in-game input settings for the steering wheel, there should be an input filter for FFB options. The game sees the center as full right, so it always tries to center the wheel on full right. If this only occurs in one direction, like the wheel will always go full lock right, this is the same issue. The FFB is independant from the actual game inputs, so the inputs are correct but the FFB is not. When the game is trying to center the wheel, it will turn it to full lock instead. The game thinks the wheel FFB center is on the outsides. Your force feedback (FFB) is inverted, this is a settings issue in Beam and not the Logi software.
